AI Brand Gap™ Research

The AI Brand Gap™

How AI understands brands. And where it gets them wrong.

For decades, companies have invested in defining what their brands should mean to customers. Artificial intelligence introduces a new intermediary. AI draws on official communications, historical associations, third-party sources and competing narratives. The result can be a disconnect between intended positioning and the way AI understands and considers a brand.

Being known by AI is not the same as being understood. And being understood is not the same as being recommended.

What are we measuring?

Intended Brand Understanding

How brand owners want the brand to be understood: category, positioning, value proposition, differentiation, capabilities and intended associations.

AI Brand Understanding and Consideration

How AI systems describe, associate, compare and consider a brand within relevant customer scenarios.

Read Our Research Methodology

Research is conducted at Brand × Industry × Country level. Country means the assessment market, not corporate headquarters. Consumer-facing, B2B and hybrid brands are eligible.

Official communications may serve as a provisional positioning proxy until brand-owner validation. Assessments require documented AI responses and reviewed evaluations.

Results reflect specific markets, models, prompts and dates. They are not universal rankings of brand quality. Comparable reviewed cohorts must use compatible protocols.

Exploratory legacy estimates remain separate from validated assessments. Numerical research scores are not published. Public categories are reviewed classifications, not numerical rankings.

The State of the AI Brand Gap™

Our research is building an international picture of how brands are understood and considered by artificial intelligence. The first milestone is 1,000 qualified customer-facing brands. Coverage is not the same as completed assessment.
